DE LEON TOP STUDENTS 2008-09
Congratulations to the following students who were selected as the Top Student this school year for their respective academic teams:

Jaguar - Cedar Garcia
Leopard - Francisco Velasco
Panther - Sophia Grossweiler
Tiger - Nicole Caramba
Cougar - Ricardo Flores
Wildcat - Hannah Piñon

These students were selected  based on academic excellence, behavior, and citizenship. Given all the wonderful children we have here at DMS, this is truly an honor!
DUKE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Congratulations to our 7th grade students: Trishia Mercado, Cassandra Saenz, Oscar Salinas, and Victoria Vela. These students scored high enough on the SAT and ACT tests they took earlier this year to qualify for State Recognition by Duke University

To even qualify to take the tests, you must be a high achieving 7th grade student. This in and of itself is an honor. However, of the McAllen ISD students who took the test (about 250 district-wide), only 17 received this special state honor! WELL DONE LIONS!
Congratulations to De Leon's Students of the Month and Teacher of the Month!
From each school team, two awards are given monthly to our most outstanding DeLeon Lions, Top Student and Lion’s Pride. The criteria for these honors include excellent grades, behavior, citizenship, and other accomplishments. Congratulations again to our winners for the month of May!

Congratulations also to our Teacher of the Month, Ms. Catharine Vela. Thank you again for your hard work and dedication to our students at De Leon MS!

THE BIG READ - PHOTO GALLERY
The photographs in this gallery were presented and displayed by our De Leon students at a community book discussion of the novel, Bless Me Ultima, held at the McAllen Public Library in March. These photos were also published in "Nuevas Voces", a publication dedicated to promoting literacy and student work. In these photos, you will find many themes from the novel  including the discovery of family identity and the struggle between good and evil.  Click below to check out these amazing photographs!
